Japanese fashion magazines made be obsessed with makeup… January 20, 2011

Last summer, I started reading ViVi, Pinky (which is no longer publishing), PopTeen, PopSister, Kera, Nonno, CamCam, PS, Mini, GOSSIP, JELLY, NUTS, AGEHA, and Japanese magazines of all sorts which mainly focuses on adolescent/lady fashion styles and makeup.
Now, about half a year later from reading the magazines monthly, I have completed changed my mind about what is “pretty and cute”. I used to wear no makeup at all except occasionally wear lip balm for chapped lips but now I wear light-medium coverage tinted moisturizer, concealer, mascara,, blush, and loose face powder about 90% of the time I go outside. I used to be obsessed with cute stationary stuff such as Hello Kitty, Sanrio, San-X especially lead pencils but not anything like makeup until I started reading the Japanese fashion magazines. I went from having no blush, 1 foundation, 1 mascara, 1 eyeliner, and a bag of lip products to 6+ blushes, 10+ foundations (I do have a lot of the same foundation because it’s a really small package), 10+ mascaras, 5+ eyeliners, and more than a makeup bag full of lip products. I’ve even attempted to bleach my hair because I just really want to be what is defined as “pretty and/or cute” in the magazines.
Of all the changes, I find myself using less lip products but focusing on real makeup such as foundation, mascaras, concealers, and blushes. I’ve also started shopping online for clothes, makeup, and fashion related stuff more often but there are other reasons to this because where I live the stores don’t have what I’m looking for because the makeup I want is more readily available overseas.
Today, I realized this has come to a problem that I can’t go to sleep without buying the makeup I’ve been eying on. I just seem to keep on buying makeup and using it but not really knowing when is enough. I do know how to put on makeup that looks natural and pretty/cute at the same time. But the amount of time I spend on looking for the “next” cute/pretty makeup item online is rather wasting my time when I have more important things to do. I have decided to cut down the reading of the Japanese fashion magazines to only ViVi, CamCam, PopTeen, PopSister, and Ageha but this will be hard and it is still a lot of reading. I will report on the effects of decreasing the reading of the magazines and see if there are any changes in my behaviour and attitudes. Stay tuned…

Possible Dupe for Koji Candy Doll Blush in Carrot Orange September 11, 2010

My latest obsession is a Japanese cosmetics brand called Koji Candy Doll produced by Tsubasa Masuwaka. I just really like the design concept and the colors of cosmetics and not to mention how cute Tsubasa is in all her magazine appearances. I noticed that the Carrot Orange shade of the Candy Doll blush really resembles the NYX Powder Blush in Cinnamon. To my surprise, in this month’s October issue of Popteen I see both of these blushes on a spread featuring the Candy Doll products. Also, the colors of Candy Doll Lipglosses resemble NYX’s Round Lipgloss in pink and nude shades.

TV Series Watching Marathon July 24, 2009

I have watched quite a lot of TV series this summer, mainly because I have been doing very minimal amount of school related work. So after a lot of browsing on the Internet, I have finished watch a lot of good shows. The ones I’m referring to are not anime. I know I should be talking about that but this season’s anime show isn’t all the great. I ended up checking out dozens of TV shows to occupy my boredom and curiosity for new things. Here’s my feedback for the following series:

The Listener – I started watching this show not because of the main actor is hot (well may be he is) but because I saw so many Ads of this show by CTV. The Listener has been advertised on the bus, downtown Toronto and what drawn me to it was the Sci-fi Channel logo, not the actual show or anything. I just thought it must have been sci-fi related and that intrigued me to give it a go. But now I’m hooked, the concept of this show involved a ER paramedic with the ability to read minds and even sense people’s strong thoughts from distance. It is really amazing to see a show so realistic, based on a typical person’s life but with a twist of paranomal crime. I can’t wait for the third season…I am sure there will be one eventually probably this Fall.

Gossip Girl – I didn’t exactly like this show because it’s really unrealistic. People are so mean to each other–so many things go wrong, and yet the very people who betrayed each other are best friends but are tied by an imaginary bond influenced by some narrator called the “Gossip Girl”. I just find this unrealistic because they are rich so they can get some lawyers to find who “Gossip Girl” is, and then sue the crap out for her to shut up. The best thing about the show is their fashion style. They wear a lot of top designer and preppy clothing and the upscale setting is somewhat worth the watch. My favourite character is Jenny Humphrey. Hilary Duff will be on the show airing in October so I’m going to watch it. It’s a good time killer.

The L Word – Totally unexpected show. I thought it was cool how the episodes had titles that started with L or something along the lines. The show is somewhat really graphic stuff and I’m not refering to blood or murder… You can’t help but be drawn to the character’s problems especially because Shane McCutcheon looks really like a pretty charming guy but is somewhat of a playboy with a good heart and I’m sure straight females watch this for that. And how can you psychologically tell if those who are gay? Just observe the way they walk; the way they talk does not matter much.
What makes me unique but at the same time I’m trying to be normal… July 20, 2009

Okay, I have to confess that there’s just so many things that makes me eccentric or unorthodox, but people might just not know and I’m not too enthusiastic about telling people this…ha ha. Here it goes:
- I don’t like Harry Potter; I used to think it was okay from the movies; the books were nothing special, but now the sixth movie looked terrible from the first 20 minutes. Harry Potter movie 6 was full of crap–what’s the hype and rating on IMDB about? Probably the ratings were from majority of the fans who watched the new Harry Potter movie that just came out in theaters.
- I sleep really late and I get up really late. It’s become a bad habit that close friends know. I am trying to fix it but right now I don’t think I’m tired enough to go to sleep. I’ve read psychology articles stating that people who sleep less but enough (may be 6 to 7 hrs) actually live longer than those who sleep a lot. So it might be a good thing but my sleep times are still kind of crazy when I need to follow a normal schedule.
- I love vampire stuff but I just don’t like Twilight. I am addicted to vampire fiction, and those paranormal romance novels like MaryJanice Davidson’s Undead series featuring Vampire Queen Betsy. I also think the Trueblood TV series is a pointless one. The first episode was crap…nothing much happened and this is what you get from long and boring novels, which is series was based. The book was okay, but the TV series is popular because the actors were attractive to other people, but not me. I look at actors rationally most of the time so judging from their looks is not gonna trick me into loving their show.
- I like to dye my hair blue (partially and still trying now that I have blue hair dye but just trying to bleach it white first on black hair… Doh!) and no one I know seems to like that as much as I do.
The first time in my life I hated my natural black haircolour! June 28, 2009

I’ve been wanting to dye my hair blue for a long time. Today, I finally got Manic Panic Shocking Blue semi-permanent haircolour and 30 vol hydrogen peroxide. First off, the hydrogren peroxide did not lighten my black + dyed brown hair at all! I tried it twice within 4 hrs… And then I tried the Manic Panic Shocking Blue on my dyed brown hair and it also didn’t work as I intended to–my hair turned black instead of blue. Now I’m waiting for the stores to open so that I can buy a bucket of bleach powder (wow, this is dramatic hair dying process) or if I can’t find that I’ll probably buy a bleach kit. I can’t believe my hair is so stubborn.

I am so pissed–Archie is proposing to Veronica…urgh they will make such an annoying comic book couple! June 22, 2009

I sort of knew why Archie will propose to Veronica instead of Betty because he’s got the hots for the glamorous looks, money, and sweet life of Veronica, but not Betty. But honestly, that’s not true love at all. The news is everywhere…people are shocked! Betty is so much better than Veronica and I still in disbelief that in September the author will release the fist part of the 6 comic sega. I hope this is not some marketing gimmick and I really wish they in the end, he will either die or choose Betty!
