Happy Valentine’s Day! =3 February 14, 2009

It’s the romantic day of the year, as I’ve picked out a really hot pick (yaoi madness) for the blog post. Enjoy the romantic atmosphere even if you don’t have a lover because there’s plenty anime and manga that will make you feeling all fuzzy. And of course, true love awaits as time and fate bring destined people together…

My Ideal Kind of Shoujo Manga January 1, 2009
Posted by xyue in Uncategorized.add a comment
So I’ve been thinking about shoujo manga, and why I am so attracted by some while appaled by others. This time I’ve concluded the characteristics that I think make up an awesome shoujo manga.
1. HOT GUY TO GO with the protagonist girl
Shoujo manga is all about love, romance, and hot guys are no exception. Hot guys or bishounens are the main attractions for shoujo manga fans, and even if the story sucks, the guy that end up being together with the main character should be hot. The hot guy typcially have some kind of hidden bad, rebellious, or perverted side to him and he may not even realize his love for the main character in the beginning. But the hot guy is indepedent, looks tall and perhaps looks somewhat on the skinny side.
2. The unconventional protagonist…the dream to be of every shoujo reader
The typcial shoujo manga character is weak, sensitive, and perhaps very very girly. But I like protagonists that are independent, pretty but not overly nagging, and perhaps somewhat geeky or what I call eccentric which makes it unpredictable and interesting. I am really sick of seeing unwilling and emotional shoujo girls as main characters. They should be on the side. I believe in indepdent and somewhat lonely girls who deserve a hot guy to be with them, not because they can’t live without being emotionally abused. Being too reserved is somewhat annoying too. I wish the main character would be mentally strong like a guy, but not macho or anything. Just someone who seems quiet to strangers, but actually determined and independent.
3. NO MORE VACATION/RANDOM TRIPS
I am really annoyed by the typical shoujo manga fillers, e.g., going to visit a temple but end up being stuck there being of rain, snow, and whatever but things turns out EXPECTED. I don’t want to see another filler with the protagonist kidnapped because I know eventually they will be rescued by the guy. Skip that and think of something more creative.

The upcoming Brother sewing machine The Quattro 6000D eventually sold in stores will be a splended gift for people with crafts. I really want this gadget, seemingly large but very useful when you know how to construct something.

How to tell if a guy likes you? Part I December 19, 2008

So I’ve been thinking a lot about relationships, and more importantly the hidden thoughts behind a guy’s mind. This is nothing special because most people would be interested in what others, especially that special one, like you or at least is interested. After taking first year university psychology and some searches online, I’ve found that there’s a lot less to know than one may believe. I believe self-doubt makes us think unrealistically. So to the point, if a guy likes you, would you know and how? There is no absolute correct answer. Different culture and norms and also our personality differences makes it hard to pin-point just who likes who. But on the other hand, have you ever thought about other relationships and just how much easier it is to tell if some other couple are interested in each other or not? For example, you see this person and he obviously looks like he likes the other person, but in another situation if that target was you, would you know it the same way? Very likely there’s a lot of self-doubt and self-denial in this. But we’ve fallen for the love trap some point in our lives. We can’t just be sure if a guy likes you…because we don’t even know if we want to accept such an idea when there’s no concrete evidence.
I am here to say that “liking” someone also have different meanings–it could be friendship or love or family or just a competor otherwise for fun. There is no exact answer, but I’ve come to several ways of explaining the signs and ways someone would like you and some of information are not exactly valid just like complex emotions.
1. When we like someone, we may not admit it ourselves which makes it difficult to evaluate clearly if that significant other you’re interested likes you back.
The reason why you’re questioning whether he likes you back even though the answer may be obvious, is because of self-doubt. Attribution theory makes it hard for us to believe in good or bad outcomes that are undesirable. We may think of many environmental factors or situational factors to ease the thought of concrete truth. In other words, we may as well not think about whether the guy likes you back or not because we will only convince ourselves false truth, being immersed in something that is doubtful. So forget about the idea of someone liking you for at least a few days, though it is very hard, and then go back and think about it again, and think about if you were some outsider witnessing such a situation, would you believe that he like you back? Yes, no, or maybe not enough evidence?
2. Body language
The eyes are the windows to the soul; the proverb makes it easy to tell if someone actually like you back. Just look into their eyes, look at their body cues and think for a moment…does this lead me to think they like me? Are they nervous because they like you? Because they are shy in general? Because they have something worrying on their mind? Or because you are there and he’s trying to impress you? Or do they seem like they are avoiding eye contact, stuttering or keep one touching themselves? It could more likely be that they fancy you than they actually think you’re annoying. Generally, there’s a high chance that guy likes you when he acts differently towards you.
3. Everyone likes you
Don’t worry about being disliked. Most people don’t really hate anyone in general, so people will like you for who you are. Keep being who you are because there is at least one person in this world (DON’T FORGET FRIENDS AND FAMILY) who loves you unconditionally.
Even though I hardly watch any TV…why am I still unhappy? November 15, 2008

So according to recent study, “sociologists at the University of Maryland concludes that unhappy people watch more TV, while people who describe themselves as very happy spend more time reading and socializing. The study appears in the December issue of the journal” Social Indicators Research. http://www.physorg.com/news145901411.html
I happen to hardly watch any TV but I am a big Internet addict. I think the article ignored a part of society who are more concerned with what’s going on globally on the Internet than what’s happening on TV. For one thing, the article concluded that unhappy people are more likely to have free time on their hands but that completely contradicts the stress and demotivation I have right now. I am unable to get enough time for myself and this article concludes that I am happy. I just don’t get it.

BUT TO SUM UP I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT TECHNOLOGY.
One year of rants from the INTJ female blogger… August 22, 2008

Wow now that I actually look back to a year ago I started out this blog just for the sake of expressing my fandom and appreciation for anime, manga, and random stuff that I felt I wanted to tell people about. I am quite happy to realize that it’s been 1 full year that I have ranted about my personal interests and perhaps I’ve actually gotten the interest of other people via the web. Needless to say I am thankful for WordPress’s quality service for keeping my blog for a year. As I head to university I’ll be still keeping entries and I’m not going to abandon this blog. It doesn’t take too much time to write a blog entry as there is really no limit in what I can write…though I may have some liability law suit if I do say some outrageous but that’s not me. ;-D
