Restaurant Empire II – PC Simulation Game for Food Lovers, Stategists and Planners June 17, 2009
Posted by xyue in PC, random.2 comments
Just yesterday, I started playing this incredibly simple yet tedious but addicting PC game called Restaurant Empire II (Rated E), a sequel if not almost identical to the first installment, Restaurant Empire with the exception of better graphics, animation quality and an addition Desserts Mission where you can start a Coffee Shop from scratch (well, they gave you the kitchen at first but everything else is up to you to build). I have played both games for at least 5 hours each…and to be honest, Restaurant Empire II has too much elements that is almost identical to the new one. The intro, dialogue and conversation and especially the narrated tutorial were too similar. The guy narrator’s voice was almost was too familiar in both of the games and it probably the same person…so you could technically skip the tutorial if you have played the first game.
There was, however, a problem that I’ve encountered which wasted hours of my freetime trying to fix a black screen when I start the game. The menu is gone…I see the hand cursor that came with the game, but not the graphics. But I just found out the solution to stop the black screen. All you have to do is go to your “Documents” folder, then “My Games” and then click the “Restaurant Empire II” folder, and then delete the two files but not the folder which contains your saved gameplay. I haven not yet confirmed if this works 100%. Will be back to confirm.
Edit: it works great now…Except my laptop crashes before I can save the game process…but that’s probably just me. X/
My lifetime goals that I want to achieve June 5, 2009

There’s actually a lot of things I want to do before I die; to be blunt about it. But there’ still a lot of things I can’t wait when I get the opportunity:
- learning how to use specialized computer programs
- learn how to start my own e-business
- be a pro-photographer
- advanced illustrator
- learn how to design & make clothing
- better public speaking abilities
- read more books–hopefully excel at writing
- grow a garden filled with roses
- become a healthier by exercising more frequently and change eating habits
What I have been doing thus far–the beginning of a workoholic summer… May 9, 2009

This summer is a strange one. I have never been so different. Probably because of broken friendships which made me redefine my purpose of life.
But pretty much this summer’s been packed with a lot of thinking, not too much other activities otherwise.
List of significant things I’ve done thus far:
- Found many books related to my major and read quite a lot of psychology and self-help books, magazines and articles including: Sciam Mind, Popular Photography, Psychology Today, Japanese fashion magazines (e.g. Kera, Nono, Kera Maniax), and other things. I don’t exactly see a need to keep track of all the books I’ve read, because unless I will use them in the future for essays, I won’t be needing those again.
- I started playing application games on Facebook and I’m addicted! Vampire Wars is really addicting because it has a time limit and while I wait, I actually get to do other things. I know gaining points or numbers are merely a delusional way of killing time, but I still find it somewhat interesting because there’s a lot of players in this game, because it’s a social game that doesn’t require a lot of communication. It’s a fairly ironic thing. Restaurant City and Pet Society are the two other Facebook games which are almost exactly the kinds of games that you expect to see on Nintendo DS series but for free.
- Listening to indie music and discovered new bands including: Glasvegas, Late Night Alumni and The New Cities.
- Changed my bad sleeping habit…at least for now. =D
Too many options can be a bad thing? April 27, 2009

From briefly reading The Happiness Revolution: Creating Balance and Harmony in Your Life, I’ve realized how having too many options in life can make you unhappy because you think there’s something or options that you should have but under the circumstances, you can’t have it all.
Or, that there are too many options, that you can’t simply settle with one and be happy with it forever. Such as your interests. You many have many interests, but you can’t really settle down for the best major or career because there are simply a lot of options available for your multiple interests. And not having to experience the possibilities, one can, in fact, long for something that they’ve never experienced. And with the “grass is greener on the other side” conception, people can be unhappy as a result of too many options which they could have chosen, but is unable to choose all. When the people are struggling, they may resent what they’ve chosen or decided to do. But hey if you think about it, you can also chose the next step that will bring you forward, without rewinding what you should or could have done.
Even though you might believe that there is only one thing for you. That is untrue because there’s just many other options available that are probably just as good or even better but they only exist to you once you discover them. However, searching for something better can make you unhappy too. But the most important thing is appreciate what you already have. Of course there’s many things that could have been better, but realizing that what is already existent in your life that makes you an individual and unique–your identity as a result of experience is priceless.
So to speak, life is endless; the good and bad happens; nothing is perfect but if you want it perfect, you just need to look forward and make the right step ahead!
Obsessed with a brand new anime: Hanasakeru Seishounen! April 25, 2009

I just watched 3 subbed episodes of Hanasakeru Seishounen and I am totally obsessed. Although it’s a very typical shoujo themed manga, perhaps a mix of Special A and Skip Beat, I think this anime is really addicting. Now I am excited to watch anime once again. It’s been a while since I’ve like a new anime these days. I’ve even lost interest in mangas for some reason. =/
Hanasakeru Seishounen is a bout a girl named Kajika Burnsworth, who accepted to play “the game” of finding, choosing, and marrying one of the three guys offered by his dad. The catch here is that the three guys nor Kajika knows that her dad is involved to initiate the encounter…but the rest is up to them which makes the anime somewhat unpredictable. I like the Eugene character the most so far. I kind of know where this anime is going… Hope the next episode will come out soon!

Addicted to Japanese Fashion Magazines… March 25, 2009

Lately, I’ve been really focused on Japanese magazines and among them I really love the gothic lolita/punk style issues which are Kera, Kera Maniax, and recently I just discovered two new titles–Alice Deco and Alice Deco ala mode.
From the recent scans I’ve found online, Alice Deco a la mode has a lot of pretty insightful fashion styles. It got a bit of Alice in Wonderland feel to it with the tea cups and cards as accessories. And most of all, the models look like dolls, which is a bit angelic whereas Kera magazine tend to have less feminine, and darker themes.
Again, I see a lot of repetive plaid patterns, doll dresses, but I’m usually looking forard to something unique such as the painting pattern stockings from Alice Deco de la mode.
I definitely want to buy one of those vintage umbrellas, and I found local store with these available except it’s definitely not on the cheap side.
And I just realized one of the models actually was actually wearing wigs the whole time, when I assumed they dyed their hair lol.

Exactly 5 Days Left Till Reading Week is Over! February 17, 2009

Having a long list of to-dos, I’m really wondering is this even a break and most of all can I afford this break? Seriously, from hearing someone so relaxed for the week from another university is really starting to annoy me. Why am I stuck in this place? I need to improve but there’s hardly any time for that because I’m already struggling to maintain a required average. Is this really worth all the struggle? Should I be here I wonder. Well it’s too late to change and that is my final decision. I know for sure, that my future is something wonderful…and in achieving that future I am taking this opportunity to learn and I MUST REFRAIN from demotivation.
There is exactly 5 days left to do anything. So far I’ve completed only one of the things on my list…which is deciding the courses for upcoming Fall term. But that took me a long time to consider…and of course that’s that but why did I get so bored on the second task–working on Excel for one of the weekly assignments? Hmnn…perhaps there is no challenge and the task is boring and repetitive. But what else can I do?
Perhaps I can read about Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder and that would prepare me for the 5 min rant I’m about to do on Tues. But I’m just not really in the mood. Bored? Yes. Can’t start to work? What to do?
Happy Valentine’s Day! =3 February 14, 2009

It’s the romantic day of the year, as I’ve picked out a really hot pick (yaoi madness) for the blog post. Enjoy the romantic atmosphere even if you don’t have a lover because there’s plenty anime and manga that will make you feeling all fuzzy. And of course, true love awaits as time and fate bring destined people together…
